Curriculum Goals: Students will be introduced to the origin of food and its processing.Students will analyze food and drink and research chemical effects to the body.Students will compare and contrast possible similar physiological effects from non-processed foods.
Students will prepare a cost anaylsis between processed foods and non-processed foods.
Media Literacy Goals: Increase awareness of the numerous messages within an advertisement. Develop students' skill at critically thinking and evaluating sources of information. Nice job with goals Proposed Activities: Prezi presentation, advertisement analysis and critique, video critique, create magazine advertisement Assessment/Evaluation:
The students will create two page wikis. The first page will illustrate their research on processed products such as energy drinks, power bars, gatorade, etc. They will anaylze the claims made by these products and the validity of those claims.On the second page of their wiki the students will create an adverstisement that will show a more accurate portrayal of the products true health benefits..Create a poster of cost comparisons over the next 4years, and next 10 years.Resources/Support: Packet: Chemicals in the Environment, Website: Food Inc.
